Let’s take a look at return on investment (ROI) and online video

Are You Struggling To Connect The Dots From Online Video to ROI?Most of us accept the notion that online video has an engaging and persuasive  effect on its viewer audience. In fact, I blogged about viewing habits of senior executives a few days ago. In that blog post I reviewed a study by Forbes Insights and Google, and how business related web videos effect the purchasing decisions of senior executives. However, we do get asked by business managers how ROI on web video should be measured.

How much should a two minute promotional video cost?

How much should a two minute promotional video cost?A common question with no easy answer. I’d like to address the question of how to obtain video production cost and pricing for your business. As I am not that familiar with other video production companies’ pricing policies – this blog post will focus primarily on how we process pricing requests at eTown Videos. I fully understand the importance of an estimated cost which a prospective client may need for budgetary purposes, and we  strive to provide the most accurate cost estimate we can. Each video project we have been involved in is different, each with individual requirements which is why we take the time to customize each proposal. Therefore, we ask visitors who visit our website (www.etownvideos.com) looking for pricing to fill out a very brief form to help us understand your video needs so that we can provide you with pricing. If you require a detailed and customized quote, we recommend a phone call during which we can learn much more about your business and industry.

“Why can’t you just list the pricing on your website?” Read the rest of this entry »

postheadericon Does promotional web video really work?

Should we get a promotional web video?

Does promotional web video really work?Frankly, I think the question of whether or not you should get a promotional web video for your small business or corporate needs has already been answered. Back in 2006, we spent a significant amount of time explaining the benefits of web video and why businesses should post them to their websites. Today, web visitors are consuming online video in record amounts and numbers are rising. There is plenty of research and data available on the Internet about online business video uses and the results web video productions can produce.

The question really should be:  How effectively can corporate videos and promotional web videos communicate your message or business mission? How successful is web video when it is used by your marketing and sales department to persuade clients to consider your products and services? Read the rest of this entry »

Understanding the cost of a professional video production

How much should a video production cost? The cost of a professional video production depends on two general areas. The first cost area will be determined by the length and quality of the video production you require for your business. The second cost area relates to the resources which the video production company provides e.g. experienced filmmakers, type of equipment, editing skills, script development, voice over narration, and the location(s) of the shoot.

Let’s go through some of these elements in more detail: Read the rest of this entry »

postheadericon How to Prepare For a Video Interview

7 tips for the person being interviewed – turn fear into an enjoyable process

how to prepare for a video interviewMost clients we work with have never been in front of a video camera for an interview. It is quite natural to be a little nervous. Much of the fear will go away with a little pre-interview preparation. Following are 7 tips that will help in your preparation.

  1. Arrive to the set at least 30 minutes prior to the shoot, it will help in getting you comfortable with your surroundings and the film crew.
  2. Wear solid colors or creamy off whites as these usually work best on camera. You might want to bring a change of clothes just in case. Do not wear any thin striped patterns – they tend to create a sort of vibration effect on film.If the interview is filmed in front of a green screen then do not wear anything with green colors. Not wearing green in front of a green screen  may seem slightly obvious, unless the producer wants to create a “floating head” effect :-) Read the rest of this entry »

postheadericon Should I Hire a Professional Video Company or Do It Myself?

Deciding when to hire a professional video production company

Deciding when to hire a professional video production companyYou have done the research on the benefits of online video and you have decided to make a commitment to add video to your online marketing campaign.

The question which lies before you is whether you should self-produce or hire a professional film making team?  Cost is the primary reason a business or organization would consider these two options. This post is designed to help you understand the difference between the two approaches, and the results you can expect from either a self-produced or professionally produced video project.

In the spirit of full disclosure, eTown Videos is a professional video production company and we make a living creating professional, engaging and compelling videos.  At the same time, it is my goal to provide you with an objective view on self-produced videos and professionally produced videos.

Objectives and Goals: In a previous post (The Seven Most Important Aspects When Planning for a Web Video Production) I talked about deciding who your target audience is and understanding their needs. What problems are you solving for them or what subject matters are being addressed?  Who is your buyer persona (vendor, customer, donor, co-worker, buyer, voter, etc.)? Who are you talking to and what are you  planning to convey? Decide on these things first. Read the rest of this entry »

postheadericon Remember the 7 Ps? Planning For a Successful Video Project

The Seven Most Important Aspects When Planning for a Web Video Production

The Seven Most Important Aspects When Planning for a Web Video ProductionBack in college a computer science professor at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, introduced me to the phrase “The 7 Ps of project planning”.  He explained that the 7 Ps stood for “Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance”. I apologize for the mild expletive, however, the humor in this adage made me remember his advice. I keep the 7 Ps in mind whenever I plan a video project with our video production team.

Therefore, I like to outline the seven most important aspects we employ when planning for  a web video production  for our clients. We found the following guidelines work well for small and mid-sized companies and organizations.
